SA Tour Report + NYC, NJ, PA, Germany + New Song

I’m back in NYC after an amazing tour in South Africa. My first time back since childhood, it was an experience I will never forget. Great shows, great new friends and fans and traveling in a country that has changed massively since I was there last as a boy. Politically, it’s tough… High unemployment, high crime and corruption. However, the people of South Africa are fighting hard in whatever way they can to make their country a better place to live and work in. I posted a lot of photos on my Instagram which anyone can access by going to and a tour retrospective video will be posted to my YouTube channel in the coming days. You can access it by going to

Coming up, I’m playing shows in New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania: B.B. King Blues Club & Grill on Monday, November 2nd (opening for The Yardbirds!) and one of my favorite NJ venues, Cozy Cabin Concerts on November 7th, which will sell out, definitely get your tix in advance.

I’m planing a trip to Nashville and Florida later part of the month, please let me know if you’d like to book me for a house concert. Then, this December I am joining my good friend, Annie Haslam and members of classical rock group Renaissance for her Christmas shows at the Sellersville Theater on December 19th and 20th.

This January I’m back in Germany for a short tour! The great Kukuun Club has re-opened on the famous Reeperbahn and I’m thrilled to play a show there on Saturday, January 9th… More dates below!

Also in January, STEREOPTICON will see the light of day at last! My side project with Grammy® winning guitarist Gary Lucas is in the can and will be available through the Cosmic Trigger label.

My dear friend Ann Hampton Callaway and I wrote a new song together that she has been performing at her recent shows in NYC and Chicago. It’s called FULL MOON LOVE and I really think it came out great. You can watch a fan video at this link:

My team and I are now booking for 2016! Please let me know where you’d like me to come play! Let’s set up some house concerts while we’re at it.

Keep living and loving,

(Pop Singer-songwriter up for eclectic categories in performance and design)

Pop Singer-songwriter Jann Klose has received four nominations in the 13th Annual Independent Music Awards (IMA).  Some of the other nominees are Willie Nile, George Benson, Vienna Teng, Suzzy Roche and daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Martha Redbone, and the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus!

Also nominated are three artists Jann’s opened for or shared the stage with: the late Pete Seeger, Antigone Rising, and Melissa Ferrick.

Jann’s nominations are for: Cover Song, Website, Swag, and Album: Spoken Word with Music Accompaniment.

The Cover Song, for which Jann is nominated, is an a-cappella version of Tim Buckley’s “Song To The Siren” off his new album, MOSAIC. “I fell in love with the song when I worked on the movie, GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY.” Jann sings Tim’s parts in the feature film, and soon after its release met Larry Beckett, who co-wrote the song and many others with Tim.  Now Jann and Larry are writing together.

In the Album: Spoken Word with Music Accompaniment category, Jann sings “Humble Wish,” on the compilation ACTION MOVES PEOPLE.  The song was written by Krista Wallhagen and Kevin Mackie.  Backing Jann are musicians from the band Renaissance (bassist Dave Keys, drummer Frank Pagano, and keyboardist Rave Tesar), plus guitarists Kevin Mackie and Tim Gleeson.  Jann opened for Renaissance’s 40th Anniversary tour in 2009.  He has also performed shows with both the group’s long time singer Annie Haslam and co-founder Jim McCarty (The Yardbirds).

Jann is the only musical nominee, in this year’s contest, up for two design categories: Website and Swag.  In the spirit of true independence, he’s always created his own promo materials. “My swag is my T-shirt design which includes the lyric ‘If you don’t know love, you don’t know life’ from MOSAIC’s first song, “Make It Better.”

The LA-ist was truly on point when it wrote that Jann “can be accurately described as the man chosen to carry on the legacy of great musicians like Tim Buckley and Paul McCartney.” Soon after MOSAIC entered the Roots Radio charts above Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow and Wilco at #22, the album ended up on first round ballots for the 2014 GRAMMY® Awards for Album of the Year and Pop Vocal Album.

Jann hopes that you will vote for him in all categories and would like for you to please tell your friends, “Thank you!” To vote you will need to register at

Nearly 400 Self-Released & Independent Label Artists are nominated in the IMAs.  The Music Resource Group (MRG) that runs the IMAs stated receiving thousands of entries from North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia, Greenland and Europe.

Jann is asking his fans to vote in the Vox Populi (fan voice) competition before the July deadline when those winners will be announced.

Judges will also be voting for results to be announced in May.  The judges are made up of artists and music industry people, including Laurie Anderson, Judy Collins, Meshell Ndegeocello, Raul Midon, Heart’s Ann & Nancy Wilson, Suzanne Vega, Sharon Jones, G. Love, and the Smithereens’ Dennis Diken. All judges are listed at

The Independent Music Awards honor exceptional independent artists traditionally ignored by mainstream media and big box retailers. For the past 13 years, artists and labels from around the world have found new fans and prominence through The IMAs. Produced by Music Resource Group, publisher of the popular industry networking database The Musician’s AtlasOnline, The IMAs uses its unrivaled access to performance, promotion & distribution opportunities to connect Winners and Nominees to new audiences and revenue opportunities.

Winners of The 13th IMAs will receive active promotions, distribution and performance opportunities that will place them in front of nearly 1 billion music fans. Artists, managers and labels credit The IMAs with increasing recognition among music fans and industry gatekeepers.

Born in Germany, raised in Kenya, South Africa, and Hamburg, Jann came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland. He performed in touring productions of Broadway shows (JEKYLL & HYDE, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR) and portrayed The Pinball Wizard in THE WHO’S TOMMY before he started his band. Jann’s music is heard on the GRAMMY-nominated HEALTHY FOOD FOR THOUGHT, on MTV CRIBS, the movie “Dead Broke” (Warner Bros.) featuring Paul Sorvino. He maintains a steady touring schedule of about 75-100 shows a year in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

New Album MOSAIC arrives Spring 2013

Contact: Anne Leighton Music Services, 718-881-8183,

New York, NY – March 7th, 2013

Jann Klose’s new album MOSAIC, due June 2013 can easily be called a sonic, lyrical and emotional mosaic from an artist, who is known as one with multi-cultural roots and an equally widely-faceted career and a voice that Public Radio’s Barb Heller says, “could sing the phonebook.”

GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY director Dan Algrant realized that when he hired Jann as a featured vocalist and guitarist in the movie that stars Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots. The film will be released April 16th, 2013 by Tribeca Film / Focus World.  Recently ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT Online interviewed Jann about the film.

Jann’s album MOSAIC follows the indie success of REVERIE (2008) and SACRIFICE EP (2010) and the music video for DOING TIME. Produced by Grammy winner James Frazee (Esperanza Spalding, Blondie, My Morning Jacket) and David Bendeth (Paramore, Bruce Hornsby, Elvis Presley) MOSAIC was recorded between Fall 2011 and Winter of 2012/13. Double GRAMMY-winner Warren Russell-Smith, mastered MOSAIC.

MOSAIC’s songs tackle personal and topical subjects and bring together a variety of instruments, musical and lyrical styles from street influences of reggae and punk to calypso, to classic rock, and the folk and Afro-beat that has addicted fans of all ages to Jann’s music. Songs include Jann’s originals, “Still,” “Make It Better,” “Four Leaf Clover,” “On and On,” “Falling Tears,” and the playful “Beautiful One” with support vocals by Rounder Records’ Carrie Newcomer. The album ends with a stunning a cappella cover of Tim Buckley’s “Song To The Siren.”  Jann’s band The Edukators, Chris Marolf on bass and banjo, drummers Rob Mitzner and Patrick Carmichael, keyboardist/accordionist Lars Potteiger, and violinist Leah Potteiger worked on the album and contributed to the arrangements.  Other featured guests include guitarists Florian Opahle (Ian Anderson, Greg Lake) David Bendeth, flautist Tia Roper and oboist Megan Marolf  (Phillip Glass, Roger Waters).

Jann’s been as comfortable performing with pop and folk singer-songwriters from THE VOICE’s Rebecca Loebe and Brett Dennen to Suzanne Vega and Pete Seeger, as he has with jam bands including his friends in Rusted Root and songwriting partner Gary Lucas.  He’s performed with acts rooted in jazz and blues such as Vonda Shepard, Michael Kaeshammer and the late Les Paul, and classical rockers Renaissance (both with Annie Haslam and the group’s co-founder Jim McCarty, also of The Yardbirds). Critics have placed him in the chamber pop as well as the singer-songwriter genres, and Jann welcomes their varied reflections, “There are no limits when it comes to making music.  I’m defined by who I am and what I do, not how some marketing executive pigeonholes me.  It’s melodic, lyrical, and rhythmic music.  Music is about what the listener hears.”

Born in Germany, raised in Kenya, South Africa, and Hamburg, Jann came to the States as an exchange student in Cleveland, and performed in a wide range of musical projects including the Cleveland Opera Chorus, touring productions of Broadway shows (JEKYLL & HYDE, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR) as well as portraying The Pinball Wizard in THE WHO’S TOMMY before he started his band.
